Having built a formidable reputation through their energetic live shows, 2020 should have seen Haiku Hands absolutely dominate the festival circuit with their blistering girl-power-infused synthy dance-pop. For good reason, that didn't happen this year for the Aussie triumvirate. But through all the bad news, we're pleased to confirm that their self-titled debut album has channelled their performances most excellently.

Our choice pick from 'Haiku Hands' stands apart from their typical hi-octane material (demonstrated masterfully on the likes of 'Onset') - 'Car Crash' slows the tempo, with shades of early noughties outfit The Organ and in more recent times, Overcoats. Far from a car crash, from a musical standpoint at the very least.

Sandwiched between the heavier in-yo-face sounds of 'Eat The Bass' and 'Supervillain' toward the end of the album, the track offers a contrasting low-key vibe, yet still retaining the empowering and anthemic elements on display across much of the rest of the album. The repeated mantra on 'Car Crash is "you're fucking awesome". Right back atcha, Haiku Hands.
