"We should multiply. Let this ship sink further, pretend everything's gonna be just fine." Now we're not saying that Matthew Murphy from The Wombats (in his new Love Fame Tragedy solo moniker) and Aussie artist Jack River predicted the global pandemic and subsequent response from various world leaders but it's hard not to relate some of the lyrics of their collab, 'Multiply', to the ongoing situation. Regardless, it's a banger.
Considering his step aside from The Wombats, "Murph" has taken the unusual solo approach of widespread collaboration throughout his burgeoning Love Fame Tragedy career - his 2019 debut EP saw appearances from members of alt-J, Soundgarden, and Pixies among others. Indeed, 'Multiply' itself not only features Jack River, but was co-written with Dan Smith of Bastille. Little surprise then that this is a sublime slice of electro-pop.
Perhaps with a nod to the current large-scale quarantine, 'Multiply' closes the latest Love Fame Tragedy EP, the aptly-titled 'Five Songs To Briefly Fill The Void'. Could do with a few more tracks tbh.
