Following an unexpected hiatus in 2016, London quartet Bombay Bicycle Club announced a return at the start of 2019 - consolidated now, with the unveiling of their return single, 'Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)'. With frontman Jack Steadman and bassist Ed Nash launching solo projects, as Mr Jukes and Toothless respectively, this moment may never have come. But we're super pleased that it has.
A return was likely on the cards at some stage - Nash was joined by existing band-mate Suren de Saram for Toothless, which also featured co-productions from Steadman. There's much of the old Bombay Bicycle Club to 'Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)', particularly in its catchy vocal hooks, but the jagged instrumentation feels paradoxically refreshing. Therefore, a doffed cap not just to the band themselves but Liz Lawrence on backing vox, and prolific producer John Congleton, who won a Grammy for his work on St. Vincent's self-titled 2014 album.
