Within the first few bars of East London quartet On Video's new track 'Past Tense', the follow-up to their barnstorming debut effort 'Ghee', we're instantly reminded of Le Tigre's dazzling late nineties riot grrrl floor filler 'Deceptacon'. Indeed, vocally and lyrically, there's a similar angsty vigour to the Kathleen Hanna-led trio, complementing the 'Deceptacon'-borrowing central riff.
The energetic 'Past Tense' is also more-of-the-same from an On Video perspective, with their opening salvo 'Ghee' also offering meaty guitar riffs and punchy vocals. As a pairing, they demonstrate On Video's infectious taste for the fast and the furious, and we're increasingly eager to hear their forthcoming debut 'Clap Trap' EP.
