It's been a number of years since we first featured Gabrielle Aplin, who joined forces with BASTILLE to deliver a cover of 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac on the 2012 mixtape 'Other People's Heartache Pt 2'. She went onto mainstream success soon after, with a No.1 UK single and two successful albums, driven by a stripped-back folk-led sound. So the Taylor Swift-esque 'Nothing Really Matters' comes as something of a surprise. An infectious pop surprise.
Musically, this is along similar lines to Swift's anthemic 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' albeit with an almost diametrically opposite lyrical take on a relationship - "nothing really matters but you". There are shades of other contemporary popstars in Sigrid and Anne-Marie, with the latter having previously worked with 'Nothing Really Matters' co-producer Lostboy. (Who we're also expecting big things from with his aboutagirl project.) Chalk this one up as another hit.
'Nothing Really Matters' is out now on digital release. Find more info at gabrielleaplin.co.uk.
