We've written about the emotionally resonant sounds of To Kill A King several times over the years, and following the recent release of their third album, they've taken a step back. And in light of that, frontman Ralph Pelleymounter has opted to unveil his official debut solo work.
It's not the first time that Pelleymounter has taken a side-step from his To Kill A King, having joined forces with BASTILLE on their 2012 'Other People's Heartache' mixtape, for example. Indeed, Pelleymounter has been collaborating with Dan Smith of BASTILLE since their days at the University of Leeds in the mid-noughties. He's also been busy helping other musicians on the writing-side of things, most notably working with multiple BRIT Award winner Rag'n'Bone Man.
Debut single 'La De Da' features Pelleymounter's distinctive vocals, accompanied by frenzied acoustic guitar, lending an urgency uncharacteristic of his previous material. It's a formidable statement of intent, with an intensity matched by stirring new track 'Wild Beast', which debuted as the opening track on BBC Music Introducing in York and North Yorkshire recently.
'La De Da' is out digitally now, and Ralph Pelleymounter will be playing his debut solo shows from the end of March. Find more info at facebook.com/RPelleymounter/.
