Christmas might be over for another year but Grace Lightman has come to the rescue, and it can live on in your earphones/headphones/stereo with this cover of 'Blue Christmas', which appears to be her first new material since her 2017 single 'Halloween Is Over'/'Fangs'. Listen to the cover, and watch its Alex Lightman (presumably a relation?) directed video, below.
Following in the footsteps of Elvis Presley and The Beach Boys, Lightman has brought her own twist to the classic, penned by American songwriters Billy Hayes and Jay W Johnson. Teaming up again with 'Halloween Is Over' co-producer Patrick James Pearson, Lightman's version of 'Blue Christmas' offers some of her now characteristic off-kilter instrumentation alongside her hypnotic vocals.
There's arguably even a semblance of Aled Jones' version of 'Walking In The Air' but that might just be coloured by my recent viewing of melancholic Christmas staple 'The Snowman'. With Christmas and Halloween ticked off on Lightman's song list, perhaps we can expect a potential Easter song in the new year.
