It may be patronising to immediately draw upon Ukranian teenage artist Akine's age but it is from a position of awe and sincerity - at just seventeen years old, and having written the track at thirteen, she's made quite the opening salvo with the ominous 'Pray For The Prey'. Listen to the track and watch its official video below.
London label Best Laid Plans (run by Mark Crew, Dan Priddy, and BASTILLE's Dan Smith) are the ones to thank for bringing Akine's talents to a wider stage, and they will hope to be able to nurture her success in a similar manner to label-mate Rag'n'Bone Man. Teaming up here with producer James Earp, who has worked with a slew of great acts such as Bipolar Sunshine and Fickle Friends, 'Pray For The Prey' channels the melodramatic pop of Aurora while adding a sense of experimentalism and urgency.
The 'Don't Foster Fear' (TBC) debut EP is set for a 2018 release on Best Laid Plans Records. Find more info at akinemusic.com.
