Words: Saam Das
If you have a reasonable knowledge of mid-noughties indie (and beyond), the name Barry Hyde will be familiar enough to you as one of the leading lights of The Futureheads. He's put a solo record together for 2016, and it's a bit different. But in a welcome way.
The first material from Hyde's forthcoming 'Malody' album is 'Sugar', built around piano and brass but with Hyde's distinctive vocals cutting through as well as his ear for a catchy melody. It's likely that this is some of Hyde's most personal work, and he's described the album as reflective of his bipolar disorder.
(On a related note, we recommend recent BBC doc 'The Not So Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive: 10 Years On', available on iPlayer for a limited time.)
'Malody' is scheduled for release on June 3rd. Find more info at pledgemusic.com.
