Words: Saam Das
I only really warmed toward enigmatic Mancunians WU LYF toward the end of their reign, as frontman Ellery James Roberts announced his exit with 'Triumph'. I mentioned back then my interest in hearing future projects, and although Los Porcos and Francis Lung haven't quite captured my imagination, Roberts' LUH seem the most promising subsequent effort. Check out their new single 'I&I' below.
Comprising of Roberts and Ebony Hoorn, LUH delivered 'Unites' toward the end of 2014 and by the start of 2016, have upped their scope and ambition. The Haxan Cloak-produced 'I&I' is the first track to be associated with their record deal with Mute, and its yearning sentiment builds and builds into something quite moving. Lyrically, it may be simplistic but there's a resonance at the heart of 'I&I': "If you're not ready, forget it. Lay down, and fall back to sleep."
