It feels like forever since we last wrote about Michigan's finest Alex Winston - although her wonky pop has been heard on several advertisements over the past few years. She's now released a new EP, 'The Day I Died', of which we particularly enjoy the atmospheric 'Down Low'.
'Down Low' smothers itself in melodrama, somewhat reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, but with a flourishing final third that eclipses anything by the aforementioned other artist. There's something particularly cinematic about that section of 'Down Low', as Winston's yearning cry of "I can't let go" rings out. It's sort of a power ballad disguised as a huge pop song, and it's bloody great.
