Brooklyn songstress Julia Easterlin is an artist who has escaped me until now, with the release of her impressive debut 'Vestiges' EP. I'm a bit of a sucker for loop-laden music, and Easterlin has mastered the art, as you'll find out on EP opener 'Go Straight Away' below, with a Bruce Springsteen cover thrown in for good measure.
The vivacious, multi-layered opening of 'Go Straight Away' adds Easterlin's soothing vocals, crafting a magical folky pop number. There's a lovely, uplifting nature to 'Go Straight Away' that contrasts the moodier remainder of the EP, although that sometimes works in the EP's favour - such as on the softly haunting cover of Springsteen's 'Eyes On The Prize'. Catch Easterlin at next week's CMJ Festival in New York and see if she can replicate the magic live.
