Words: Saam Das
Allo Darlin' frontwoman Elizabeth Morris has been recording with Darren Hayman recently, a match made in indie-pop heaven. The result being a four track EP, 'Optimism'. Some way away from the usual upbeat fare that we're used to but nonetheless, quite beautiful.
Morris wrote the songs on her great-great-great grandmother's 19th century piano - the instrument seems to have proved suitably inspiring with the deeply heartfelt and minimalist 'Young Republic' presenting a particular highlight. Elsewhere, the EP closes with a cover of The Wave Pictures' 'Sweetheart' - listen to both versions below.
