Today, Birmingham experimental duo Malpas announced a debut EP release, due out in September through the excellent Killing Moon label. They unveiled the first glimpse of the 'Promise' EP with the folktronica of 'Charlemagne' - arguably their finest effort yet.
The duo consist of Ali M Forbes and producer Andy Savours, the latter of whom has worked with an incredible array of artists ranging from Sigur Ros to My Bloody Valentine. He brings some of that diversity to the Malpas sound, which mixes acoustic instrumentation with off-kilter beats and swirling synths.
'Charlemagne' maintains the experimentalism but in a wonderfully breezy, pop manner - before romping away in its epic finale. Have a listen to the new track, along with some oldies below.
