I used to walk around Cambridge with my then girlfriend and we'd end up bumping into one of her friends every ten minutes. For a Londoner, that was a bit weird. And terribly inconvenient when trying to get somewhere. I'm not sure Cambridge quartet Blisseyes have the same issue but they do have a rather impressive debut AA-side single out now - listen to 'Manson' and 'Hold' below.
The Blisseyes sound is clearly influenced by the dark arts of the eighties, including the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, emboldened by heavy baritone vocals more recently popularised by Interpol and White Lies. The band have opted to release their debut single on cassette - not only being charitable by giving away the mp3s for free but also donating some of the proceeds to charity. Good lads.
'Hold' is the more melodramatic/atmospheric of the two tracks but both emerge as galloping, anthemic numbers. 'Manson' edges the battle for me but listen below and pick your favourite. Or simply sit back, and enjoy them both.
