Ben Garrett aka Fryars returned earlier this year, after a few years in the metaphorical wilderness, with 'Love So Cold'. While that comeback single rather left me cold, new track 'In My Arms' is shimmering, R&B-infused experimental electro. Listen to the two songs below, before they appear on a January EP.
We first featured Fryars back when he was frYars - a subtle yet important distinction. That was five years ago. He's gone up in the world since then, becoming one of the unusual set of collaborators on Mika's latest album - amazingly finding himself alongside the likes of Benny Benassi and Pharell Williams.
His earlier material had elements of Patrick Wolf and Bat For Lashes, with an electronic tinge. Since then, Fryars has seemingly increased the electronic side, with more of an experimental edge. And a dubious autotune vocal, particularly noticeable on 'Love So Cold'. Lead EP track 'In My Arms' does it better, while enveloping the vocals with infectious rhythms. Lose yourself.
The 'In My Arms' EP is released on 14 January through 679 Recordings.Find more info at facebook.com/FryarsMusic.
