We haven't passed much comment on the recent Mercury Music Prize nominations. Mainly because we haven't listened to pretty much any of the albums on the list. But one of the albums we can firmly lend our support to is Alt-J's terrific debut, 'An Awesome Wave'. It only came out in the US this week, and by way of celebration, a glossy new video for 'Something Good' has emerged.
We didn't quite get on board with Alt-J to begin with - I was very unimpressed with their decision to change their band name from Films to ∆, aka Alt-J. I still find the name somewhat irksome but my neurosis extends only so far. I even called them one of my artists of 2012 in a BBC 6Music poll - also noting them as an "early conender for the Mercury music prize". Should have put a fiver on it.
Jack FG has been a fan far longer and wisely chose the band as one of his tips for 2012. His faith wasn't misplaced and if you are unfamiliar with Alt-J then 'Something Good' is as good a place as any to start - capturing their engrossing, hypnotic brand of experimental pop.
