Fierce Panda have put together a special covers album, entitled 'The Spirit Of Talk Talk, which features a wide selection of acts offering their own takes on Talk Talk tracks. One such artist is Only Girl, who donates her vocals to Zero 7's demure cover of 'The Colour Of Spring' - an excellent introduction to her own material.
This track is the first of Ellen Murphy aka Only Girl's collabs with Zero 7, and she has also recorded with teenage production duo Bondax. Her Mark Hollis/Talk Talk cover is already a pretty strong opening gambit but it is her solo efforts that I'm most looking forward to.
Having heard her demos well over a year ago, as well as enjoying her work as frontwoman of punky indie upstarts Kids Love Lies, the next few months are set to be an exciting time in the world of Only Girl. Listen to the hauntingly ethereal minimalism of 'Colour Me' and 'End Of Time' before a debut EP drops (hopefully) in the not too distant future.
