Rightfully so, Scottish outfit Frightened Rabbit have been one of the most critically revered acts to come from our fair isles in the past decade. Sometime recently a major label cottoned onto that fact - and now Atlantic UK will be releasing their 'State Hospital' EP next month. Listen to the title track below.
'State Hospital' is typical Frightened Rabbit - caustic lyrics laid against rousing instrumentation, albeit with more of a polish than usual on this recording. It's perhaps not quite reaching the heights of the gloriously embittered tracks on second album 'The Midnight Organ Fight' but I have to restrain myself from forever comparing their tracks to that ridiculously good album.
The track rates fairly highly in terms of the Frightened Rabbit canon and is one of the few, if only, tracks to ever make it on to BBC Radio 1. Which is pretty surprising considering 'State Hospital' mentions things like a "fuck me parade", which follows a lovely twinkly piano bit. Like I said, typical Frightened Rabbit.
'State Hospital' is released on September 24th. Find out more at frightenedrabbit.com.
