Words: Rajan Lakhani
Those who bemoaned (including me) the overly clean production on The Cribs’s last record 'Ignore The Ignorant' will be rejoicing at the stripped-down sound of the 'Chi-Town', the first release from the band’s forthcoming album 'In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull'.
With Johnny Marr no longer in the group, they’ve got back to what they do best – brilliant, bratty and noisy pop-punk songs. Although the song brings to mind the Ramones and The Replacements, it does feature a guitar solo showing that they have not abandoned the sound of their work with Marr completely.
While their last album may have broadened their commercial appeal, 'Chi-Town' represents more faithfully what we know and enjoy about The Cribs.
