I'm one of those people that likes to check out support acts when they go to see gigs. And by that, I mean Googling the fuss out of them beforehand. Especially when the name is an unfamiliar one. So when I discovered Leah Kardos was supporting Rumour Cubes at the launch of their debut album, I decided to investigate further. In 'DFACE (Practice This Video)', I found a contemporary classical gem.
Aussie-born Kardos is currently studying for a PhD in music composition, and produced her own David Bowie covers project, My Lithium & Me. She's moved from Brisbane to Bedford, composing experimental classical music for soundtracks, as well as recently releasing her own debut album, 'Feather Hammer'.
'DFACE (Practice This Video)' combines a serene piano melody with a 65daysofstatic-esque fondness for glitches, sparse but effective use of percussion and a compelling sample from a piano tutorial.
