Kirby Ferguson's Everything Is A Remix series has demonstrated the fact that all art is derivative. The outstanding 1999 film 'The Matrix' is no different - borrowing and referencing from all kinds of material, as we can see in the six and a half minute video below.
Ferguson teamed with Rob G Wilson and Cynthia Closkey to produce the video, which shows that 'The Matrix' is perhaps not as original as you may have believed. And that's largely ignoring the overt comparisons to Grant Morrison's graphic novel 'The Invisibles'. I don't think such revelations particularly diminish the film - certainly, that's not the aim of Ferguson et al.
