Quite possibly, and perhaps quite surprisingly, my favourite superhero film may well be Brad Bird's animated frenzy 'The Incredibles'. For me, it's up there with the likes of 'Unbreakable', 'Spider-Man 2' and 'X2'. Mostly because of its thrilling action, but also Pixar's enviable nous for creating film's with a strong emotional (in this case, familial) core.
Indeed, the film's central themes have provoked debate - see, for example, a recent episode of the fantastic Slashfilmcast, discussing whether a message of 'The Incredibles' is "only special people should be allowed to be special" or actually, that you should "embrace your true self". Thought provoking stuff. Either way, this is a brilliant action film and one of Pixar's finest, which is high praise. Oh and of course, not just for the kids.
