Pretty much everyone with ears (or at least one ear) has been enjoying the evocative soundtrack to Netflix sci-fi thriller smash 'Stranger Things'. Oxford experimentalist Esther Joy Lane's latest offering, 'I Hope', is smothered in a moody outlook that would not appear out of place on the aforementioned collection of music.
There's still that Zola Jesus-ness to 'I Hope' that we've enjoyed on previous tracks, whereby Lane's powerful vocals are aptly supported by an atmospheric electronic sound. It remains as compelling a mix as ever. Lane plays a charity gig at The Bullingdon in Oxford tomorrow (September 4th), playing with the excellent Hudson Scott among others.
