Hyperactive South African quartet Al Bairre (pronounced Al Bear) were a wonderful surprise at The Great Escape Festival earlier in the year - they even thanked us, but the pleasure was truly all ours. Joyous new single 'Julia' is a perfect introduction to the band's effervescence, and we've popped previous single 'Bungalow' below for good measure.
'Julia' bounces around, with shades of early Vampire Weekend - who were influenced by Paul Simon's 'Graceland' album, which itself was mostly recorded with South African musicians, bringing things full circle. Sort of. And if you think 'Julia' and 'Bungalow' are any good, you'll want to catch Al Bairre's exhilarating live efforts at the next possible opportunity.
