Words: Saam Das
WU LYF always troubled me, what with their shrouded identity marketing tactic and their unpleasant interview demeanour, but I must admit enjoying a selection of their self-styled "heavy pop" tracks. The band seemingly came to a rather abrupt end late last year, with band members emerging in new outfits like Los Porcos over the last few months. None have sufficiently interested me thus far, until now. Listen to the return of frontman Ellery James Roberts below.
Of the new projects to appear, Roberts' is the most WU LYF-sounding of them all, capturing their initial multi-layered lo-fi production and retaining his characteristic yelp. Yet there's a hopefulness in the sound of new track 'Kerou's Lament' that I rarely witnessed in the sound of WU LYF, and it's a welcome move. A delectable debut offering, download for free below.
