I have a bit of a mixed relationship with pop. In some respects, I am massively disinterested in the area - I didn't watch or indeed bother to find out anything about this week's BRIT Awards. Yet at the same time, I have a massive love for pop hits. And this new OneRepublic (not to be confused with One Direction) single deserves to be a huge hit.
You probably remember OneRepublic for their collab with Timbaland - although that was really just Timbaland jumping on their coattails as his version was remarkably similar to the original. It's too late to apologise, Timbaland, it's too late. You might not have realised that Ryan Tedder, the band's frontman is a prolific songwriter who has written the likes of Leona Lewis smash 'Bleeding Love', Beyonce's 'Halo', and tracks on Adele's last album.
Tedder has again hit a home run - to use the vernacular of his home country. 'If I Lose Myself' is a superb synth-led anthem, which retains the surprisingly percussive pop sound that OneRepublic have become known for. Shame they don't have the amazing hair that One Direction are famous for....
