I hadn't written about Mt. Wolf's latest single 'Hypolight', with the consideration that they might appear in the FG tips for 2013 - which is indeed still coming, even though we are nearing the end of February. It's perhaps too early to expect this dream-folk quartet to achieve considerable success in 2013. Yet magical songs like 'Hypolight' can expect to make their own mark.
We had the privilege of being one of the very first supporters of Mt. Wolf, pouncing on the band around this time last year, after hearing the incredible 'Life Size Ghosts'. Since then, they've released an EP of the same name, as well as a soulful cover of our favourite pop track of 2012, Usher's 'Climax'.
'Hypolight' captures the serene ambience that Mt. Wolf are likely to become well known for in the not-too-distant future. Kate Sproule's solemn vocals carry through the ether, against the beautifully layered instrumentation. Whether or not they "make it" in 2013, Mt. Wolf are certainly ones to watch. And if you're a Londoner, perhaps nab one of the last remaining tickets and watch them headline XOYO tomorrow.
